Description: Shown here circa 1907, Sgt. John Nicholas Coyne (1839-1907), fought with Company B of the 70th New York Infantry as part of the Union Army during the American Civil War, and was awarded the U.S. Medal of Honor for the valor he displayed while capturing the enemy's flag (Confederate) in hand-to-hand combat at Williamsburg, Virginia on May 5, 1862.
