Description: A typical Labourers' (Ireland) Act (1906) Cottage, which are also known in Munster, Ireland as Sheehans' Cottages, much in its original unaltered state, of which approx. 40,000 were errected. Distribution and building of rural labourer's housing in Munster was largely organised through branches of the Irish Land and Labour Association in co-operation with the Local County Councils. The cottages bore physical testimony to the great and positive change in the conditions of the agricultural labourar after the passing of the Act, especially when contrasted with the mud hovels they so often replaced.
