Description: Lot-11573-4: North African Campaign, November 1942 to May 1943. French Morocco, Africa. General Mark Clark and Captain John L. McCrea, a Naval aide, laying the Presidential wreath against a flagpole in the U.S. Military Cemetery, near the entrance to the Kasbah Mehdia, ancient Portuguese fortress near Port Lyautey around which fighting raged for three days when the Americans landed in French Morocco in November 1942. Close to this flagpole are white crosses marking graves of American soldiers and behind them are French graves. Photographed January 1943.
