Description: Fruiting branch of Leycesteria formosa viewed from beneath so that foliage back-lit by sunlight to reveal structure of leaf venation. Branch borne by specimen thriving at the foot of a high, south-facing garden wall opposite a stream at the foot of a wooded hill in the far north of the English county of Northumberland. The shape of the leaves recalls that of the leaves of the (unrelated) peepul tree, Ficus religiosa, featuring as it does a drip tip - an adaptation to the wet climate of its homeland - the rocky forests and cliffs of the foothills of the Himalayas.
