Description: The Linsly Institute Building (erected in 1858) in Wheeling, West Virginia served as the first West Virginia capitol building from statehood in 1863 until March 28,1870 when the capitol transferred to Charleston. The Linsly Institute Building was briefly utilized as West Virginia's capitol building when Wheeling again became the state's capital city in 1875.
