Description: The tartan of Clan MacDuff as recorded (and probably directly invested around 1839) by the "Sobieski Stuarts" in Vestiarium Scoticum (published 1842). This is not the sett that is most often used as MacDuff today (for that, see File:MacDuff tartan (1819, Wilsons), tileable.png). Unlike other MacDuff tartans, this one is not related to royal Stewart, though it has the same general colour scheme as the other MacDuff setts. This image is not exactly full-sett, and cannot tile horizontally and vertically; this centred and zoomed-out version was created for tabular comparison to other tartans. Scottish Register of Tartans' rather useless notes on this pattern: "The Earl of MacDuff also holds the title of Duke of Fife. Vestiarium Scoticum a book produced between 1829–1842, on which a number of clan tartans are based." This is a usual, mirroring tartan. Thread count (in "/" notation): /R6 G32 B12 K12 R48 K4 R8/ (or in boldfacing notation: R6 G32 B12 K12 R48 K4 R8). This set uses "standard" tartan colours, including dark blue (other MacDuff sets often use Balmoral blue).
