Description: Premiado con una tercera medalla en la exposición nacional de Bellas Artes de 1887, el cuadro rinde homenaje a dos de los héroes que alcanzaron más legendaria gloria en la lucha del pueblo de Madrid contra las tropas francesas durante la Guerra de la Independencia. Así, ilustra el momento en que el guerrillero Juan Malasaña da muerte al dragón francés que acaba de asesinar a su hija, la bordadora Manuela Malasaña, quien suministraba a su padre los cartuchos de fusil para combatir desde su casa a las tropas francesas, durante el asalto al parque de Monteleón. Este cuadro es probablemente el mejor testimonio de la faceta más característica de la producción de Eugenio Álvarez Dumont, quien, junto con su hermano César, llegaron a convertirse en verdaderos especialistas en pintar escenas bélicas y militares y muy particularmente de temas relativos a la Guerra de la Independencia.
