Description: One of a set of windows on the staircase leading to the Lady Chapel in Liverpool Anglican cathedral. They commemorate the lives of 'noble women', who have made some significant contribution to the world in the service of others. The windows combine portraits of well-known heroines like Grace Darling, shown here but also honour more obscure women, who may only have been known locally or in their own time. These include, in this particular window, Mary Rogers, a stewardess who made a personal sacrifice during a shipwreck in 1899, Kitty Wilkinson, a local laundress, who set up an early wash house in Liverpool in 1842 and Agnes Jones, the first trained nurse at the local workhouse infirmary, who looked after the sick and the poor of Liverpool and herself died of typhus, caught during her nursing duties.
