Description: The Montagu whaler was the standard seaboat on many Royal Navy warships. A seaboat was kept ready for use at a moments notice when at sea. In this picture, the whaler is being manned with a boarding party going to inspect a neutral ship to check that she is not carrying anything that would contravene her neutrality. This is one of a series of photos of this boarding activity taken from HMS Sheffield on 20 Oct 1941
