Description: A Moore-McCormack turbo-electric liner under way at sea. This is one of three sister ships: SS Argentina, SS Brazil and SS Uruguay. The name is omitted from the bow. The trio were built in 1927–29 as the Panama Pacific Line ships SS California, SS Pennsylvania and SS Virginia, and passed to Moore-McCormack in 1938. All three ships served as US Army troopships in 1942–46, survived the war and returned to civilian service in 1948. They were laid up in the 1950s and scrapped in 1964. The image is a colorgraph made by Harry H Baumann of New York from an original picture by Fred J Hoertz.
