Description: Monument in St Bartholomew's Church, Moreton Corbet, Shropshire, with chest tomb and effigies, of Richard Corbet (c.1512–1566) of Moreton Corbet, MP for Shropshire in 1558 and 1563. He married Margaret Savile, a daughter of Sir John Savile of Thornhill, Yorkshire and widow of Thomas Wortley (d.1545) of Wortley. Heraldry 4 shields, left to right: 1: Corbet, quarterly of 8: 1: Corbet 2: Vert, six lions rampant argent a bordure engrailed or 3: Gules crusilly fitchée argent, a lion rampant or 4: Or, two bars sable on a chief of the last two pallets argent overall an inescutcheon barry of six ermine and gules, apparently for Burley, in which case should be: Barry of six sable and or, on a chief of the last two pallets of the first overall an inescutcheon gules charged with three bars ermine (Burley) (Burke, Sir Bernard, The General Armory, London, 1884, p.148, "arms of Sir Simon Burley, Sir Richard Burley and Sir John Burley, all Knights of the Garter tempore King Richard II" (1377-1399)); Papworth gives the inescutcheon as Barry of six gules and ermine (Papworth, John Woody, Alphabetical Dictionary of Coats of Arms Belonging to Families in Great Britain and Ireland, Vol.II, London, 1874, p.584).
