Description: Illustration in the Durán Codex, a 16th-century Mexican manuscript by Spanish friar Diego Durán, depicting the moment Nezahualpilli, tlatoani of Texcoco, warned emperor Moctezuma Ii of the Mexica Empire about the destruction of the empire. According to legend, shortly before Mexico fell into Spanish control, a series of unusual events occurred during the reign of Moctezuma II which were interpreted as omens warning of the destruction of the empire. According to some records, Nezahualpilli was one of the first people to notice and tell Moctezuma about these omens.
