Description: Influence of archaeological and philological work at Nodens' Temple on Tolkien's Middle-earth. An inscription there placed a curse on the one who had stolen a ring. Tolkien investigated the name Nodens, finding a connection with the Celtic god Nuada Airgetlam, meaning "silver-hand". The temple was at a place called "Dwarves' Hill". Tolkien critic Tom Shippey called the work "pivotal" for Tolkien's Middle-earth legendarium.
