Description: North Weald ATC. This is the Control Tower of North Weald Aerodrome. The goldfish bowl was a post war addition to the typical 1940’s design. North Weald had an illustrious career as a Military base from 1916 when it was known as North Weald Basset. It was developed as a Sector Station and played a key role in the Battle of Britain. It continued in use well into the “jet age” finally passing to civilian use in 1964.
