Description: Nottingham Arboretum: statue of Feargus O'Connor the Chartist The statue of Feargus OConnor is a reminder of Nottinghams proud radical traditions. The Chartist Movement, which sprang up in the 1830s, calling for universal suffrage and other good things, was probably the worlds first working-class mass movement. OConnor, elected MP for Nottingham in 1847, was the only Chartist Member of Parliament.
