Description: Painted tomb panel from the sarcophagus of the Zoroastrian Yü Hung’s tomb. A detail of the sarcophagus platform panel, from a tomb dated to the Sui dynasty, twelfth year of Kʻai-huang (592 AD), unearthed in 1999 from the tomb of Yü Hung at Wang-kuo village in Tʻai-yüen, Shan-hsi, marble with ink and pigments. Collection of the Shan-hsi Museum (Shanxi Museum). The detail depicts two nimbate male figures dressing in Sasanian-style attire, wearing Persian (Sasanian) headdress, drinking wine and playing pipa. They all have deep-set eyes and beak nose, probably of Persian or Sogdian origin.
