Description: "Carambo!—Caraja!—Sacramento!—Santa Maria!—Diavolo!", illustration from "A Peep at Washoe" by J. Ross Browne, in Harper's Monthly Magazine, December 1860. Prospectors en route from California to the Washoe Valley (now Nevada, then the Utah Territory). According to the accompanying narrative, this would be between Placerville and Strawberry Flat. The title is a series of mild oaths in Spanish. The first two are mangled, and should be "¡Caramba!—¡Carajo!"
