Description: The Blackwall shipyard, begun in the late 16th century, continued, under various owners, to repair and build ships, particularly for the East India Company, throughout the 17th and 18th centuries. By the late 18th century, Perry's yard, as the Blackwall establishment was then known, was the biggest private yard in the world.
