Description: This image shows an outcrop of the Pilar Formation, a Calymmian carbonaceous phyllite. This is located along the road from Dixon to Picuris Pueblo, New Mexico, USA. The white bands are metatuffs used to date the rock and establish the existence of a Pilar Basin in northern New Mexico during the Picuris Orogeny.
