Description: Illustration from General History of the Things of New Spain by Fray Bernardino de Sahagún, often referred to as the Florentine Codex, in folio 6 recto of the 9th book. The illustration depicts the moment in which then-prince of Mexico Moctezuma the Younger (at the right), who would eventually become emperor, arrives to the rescue of a group of Merchants who had been put under siege during the campaign to conquer Ayotlan during the reign of Ahuizotl in the late 15th century. The merchants are seen talking to Moctezuma, informing him of the end of the war.
