Image: Praxidike-Jewitt-CFHT-annotated
Description: Animation of two images of Jupiter's irregular moon Praxidike (S/2000 J 7), taken by David Jewitt using the 3.6-meter Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope (CFHT) on 9 December 2001. Each image was taken approximately 80 minutes apart, showing the moon's motion relative to the background stars and galaxies. The apparent magnitude of Praxidike is 21.9. Jupiter is off the frame, though its bright glare is visible at the bottom right corner. The raw image datasets used are 615048p, 615068p, and 615085p. For comparison, the star field in these images can be viewed at the CDS's Aladin star atlas.
