Description: An Alpine Pasqueflower (Pulsatilla alpina ssp. alpina) in July at an altitude of 2000m above sea level at the Alpine Garden at Schynige Platte, Switzerland. The achenes of the fruits are long and hairy in order to slow and trap the wind, making the surrounding air warmer. This helps to allow the plants to survive in Alpine environments. Being high in the air, the achenes can be dispersed by the wind.[1]
