Description: Statue of Queen Victoria in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. In 1901, shortly after the Queen's death, a group of women in Hamilton (the Hamilton Daughters of the Empire) decided that a memorial to the Queen was in order. The chosen sculptor was Philipe Hebert. After some debate, the statue was located in the western part of Gore Park. At the unveiling in 1908, 22,000 people were in attendance, and the official presentation of the statue was performed by the Governor General, His Excellency Lord Earl Grey. In 1988, the statue was restored, and a second dedication ceremony was held, attended by Governor General Jeanne Sauve and descendants of the original Queen Victoria Statue Memorial Committee.
