Description: Robert Havell’s shop, The Zoological Gallery, at 77 Oxford Street, London.
Title: Robert Havell00
Credit: Francis Hobart Herrick, Audubon the Naturalist (1917), vol 1, facing page 387. According to page 386 the image is "from an advertising folder issued by Robert Havell about 1834, from the only copy known to exist, in the possession of Mr Ruthven Deane. It is a strip of heavy paper, 18 by 3¾ inches in size, and folded twice, the folded size being 4½ by 3¾ inches. One side bears four panels engraved by Robert Havell... the reverse the printed matter reproduced on pages 386 and 387". The print being examined at one of the tables is Audubon's plate of the cock turkey. (The Birds of America, plate 1) The scan here is from the June 2012 blog of the Graphic Arts Collection of the Princeton University Library (blog entry, image); the Google Books page scan linked above fails to reproduce the image.
