Description: "Portsmouth Point", an 1811 caricature by Thomas Rowlandson of riotous goings on at the Portsmouth waterfront. At left an inebriated woman is being carried away; presumably she passed out as a result of the same type of carousings depicted near the center. At right (in the doorway of the "Ship Tavern"), a naval officer (note the sword he is wearing) kisses his wife as he is reunited with his family (the girl in a yellow dress running to him is presumably his daughter). The Ship Tavern flies the flag of England (not the flag of Britain or the United Kingdom).
