Description: Front of Shade Furnace, located along Dark Shade in Shade Township, Somerset County, Pennsylvania, United States. Operated from 1807 to 1858, it was the first furnace in Somerset County. The furnace and the ruins of several associated structures compose the Shade Furnace Archaeological District, a historic district that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
