Description: In the article for this mosque it is stated that the use of four semi-domes around the central one " .... was not entirely successful, as it isolated the four huge piers needed to support the central dome, and was never again repeated by Sinan. " Strolling through Istanbul (guidebook) agrees, but gives as another reason "the identical symmetry along both axes has a repetitive effect which tends towards dulness."
