Shields: top: royal arms of Queen Victoria; centre: arms of Edward Maltby (1770-1859), Bishop of Durham 1836-56 (arms of See of Durham impaling Maltby (Argent, on a bend gules between a lion rampant (azure) and a cross pattée of the second three garbs or) Burke's General Armory, 1884; bottom: 1st & 4th grand quarter: Selby (Barry of eight sable and or(Burke's General Armory, 1884, p.911)) quartering Donaldson of Scotland (Or, an eagle with two heads displayed sable surmounted of a lymphad of the second (Burke's General Armory, 1884, p.291)); 2&3: Strangways (Sable, two lions passant paly of six argent and gules). In 1868 the lord of the manor and chief landowner of Lindisfarne was John Strangeways Donaldson Selby (1868 - The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland[1]) of Cheswick House and Lindisfarne Priory, co. Northumberland, a Magistrate and Deputy-Lieutenant for cos. Durham and Northumberland, and for the borough of Berwick-upon-Tweed, and Deputy Vice-Admiral of the Coast of Northumberland from Bamburgh Castle to Berwick-upon-Tweed. He married Mary Dorothy Grey (1797-1889) (buried St Aidan Churchyard, Bamburgh, Northumberland[2]) eldest daughter of Robert Grey of Shareston, Northumberland.
