Description: Home of Dr. Joseph Bancroft in Ann Street, Brisbane, ca. 1882. Photograph of the residence of Dr Joseph Bancroft on the corner of Ann and Wharf Streets. The house was erected around 1874. Before this Dr Bancroft resided on Wickham Terrace at the residence, Carlton. Around 1911, the Ann Street residence went out of the Bancroft family and became a boarding house. It then changed to a residential club of the Returned Soldiers and Sailors Imperial League of Australia in 1917. This presumably became the much-altered Brisbane Hotel in 1923.
