Description: This is Gough Square in the City of London. The location of the home Dr Johnson lived in from 1748 to 1759. This is a statue of Hodge, the cat of Dr Johnson. It is outside Boswell House, opposite Dr Johnson's House. It is positioned as if Dr Johnson is looking out the window at his cat. It is sitting on a book, probably A Dictionary of the English Language. It is by H.W. Fowler, in tribute to the work of Major Byron F Caws in the preparation of the Concise Oxford English Dictionary. Erected by his grandson Richard Byron Caws in September 1997.
