Description: The fore entrance to Linlithgow Palace, built by King James V around 1533 gave access to the outer enclosure surrounding the palace. The four European orders of chivalry, to which James V belonged are engraved above the arch (from left to right) "The Order of the Garter", "The Order of Thistle", "The Order of the Golden Fleece" and "The Order of St. Michael". The stonework has been completely renewed in 1845.
