Description: The Royal Navy during the Second World War A general surface search Radar set with a Type 277 aerial fitted to HMS Swiftsure, a Minotaur class cruiser at Scapa Flow. The parabolic reflector is made of wire mesh, in order to lower its weight and wind loading. On the left is the drive motor that is used to stabilize the antenna vertically as the ship rolls. Opposite on the right is a rotating waveguide connection. The waveguide, labeled W7897, runs behind the reflector to the top, and then down the face of the reflector. A second waveguide, labeled W7899 (or W5899), connects the rotating joint to the base of the mount, where it meets another rotating connection.
