Description: The Treasury Annex, located across the street from the U.S. Department of the Treasury headquarters, at 701 Madison Place NW (on the corner of Pennsylvania Avenue and Madison Place NW.), in downtown Washington, D.C. The Treasury Annex houses the Office of Foreign Assets Control and the headquarters and main branch of the Treasury Department Federal Credit Union. Designed by noted architect Cass Gilbert, construction of the Beaux-Arts Treasury Annex was completed in 1919. The building is designated a contributing property to the Lafayette Square Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1970. The Treasury Annex is also designated a D.C. Historic Landmark, listed on the District of Columbia Inventory of Historic Sites in 1964. A plaque marking the former headquarters of the Freedman's Savings and Trust Company (more commonly known as the Freedman's Bank, pictured here) is located on the west face of the Treasury Annex.
