Description: Northwestern abutment of the former Turtle Creek Culvert. The culvert and a mile-long embankment were built to carry the Miami and Erie Canal over Turtle Creek west of Newbern in Washington Township, Shelby County, Ohio, United States. Completed in 1843, the embankment and stone culvert ceased to be used after the great flood of 1913, which permanently ruined the canal. Deterioration led to the demolition of the culvert in the early 1980s. The culvert and embankment were placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978 and removed in 1985.
