Description: An engraving of the 1831 Seal of the United States Senate made in the March 26, 1885 edition of The Daily Graphic, a New York newspaper. By this time, several elements of the seal had evidently worn, so they were not present in this engraving. The figure on the left is supposed to be holding scales of justice over her head, the central figure is supposed to be holding a scroll with "Constitution" written on it, and the pedestal she is standing on is supposed to say "4 July 1776".
