Description: Earthquakes of moment magnitude 8.0 and greater from 1900 to 2018. The apparent 3D volumes of the bubbles are linearly proportional to their respective fatalities, i.e. their radii are linearly proportional to the cube root of the fatalities. Data is from https://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/eqarchives/year/mag8/magnitude8_1900_date.php ; The colour indicates the continent, and the legend counts the number of quakes for each. Notice the absence of Africa and the low presence of Antarctica and Europe.
