The plaque beside it reads "THIS TOTEM POLE WAS PRESENTED TO THE PEOPLE OF SYDNEY IN THE NAME OF THE GOVERNMENT AND PEOPLE OF CANADA ON THE OCCASION OF NATIONAL TIMBER WEEK 1964. J. H. LUSCOMBE, TOWN CLERK. H. F. JENSEN, LORD MAYOR. 17.9.64". The totem pole was carved by Simon Charlie, a Quamishan man from Vancouver Island, British Columbia.[1]
