Description: SMH Wallabies Aust RU 1934 The Wallaby victory in the 1st Test v NZ 11 Aug 1934 enabled Australia to win the Bledisloe Cup for the 1st time from the All Blacks. Team comprises (though not in order): Alex Ross, Doug McLean, Jnr., Cyril Towers, Dooney Hayes, Jack Kelaher, Wally Lewis, Syd Malcolm, Ted Jessep, Edward Bonis, Vincent Bermingham, Bill White, Weary Dunlop, Owen Bridle, Walter Mackney, Aub Hodgson. Ross is at far right, Malcolm 3rd from right, Towers is sixth from left. E.S. "Dooney" Hayes, fifth from the right. Died in WWII. Sir Edward "Weary" Dunlop is best known for his courageous and compassionate leadership of approximately one thousand Australian troops held as prisoners of war by Japanese on the Thai-Burma railway during WW2.
