Description: Le Sire de H(u)ng(er)forde, Waulter. Garter stall plate, Windsor Castle, of Walter Hungerford, 1st Baron Hungerford (1378/9-1449), KG. "A fine quadrangular plate in the form of a banner with wreathed and gilded staff and gold fringe. On the field, which is cross-hatched and coloured a dull black, are the arms: Sable, two bars argent in chief three plates (Hungerford), and a silver helm covered by a mantling barry of ermine and gules within and without (arms of Hussey), and with dagged edges and red and gold tassels, surmounted by the crest: Within a crest coronet azure a garb or between two sickles argent. The garb is filled in with red, and the sickles have serrated cutting edges. Two or three (usually interlaced) sickles were used as a badge by the Hungerford family.
