Description: This is the former home of famous North Carolina Politician Walter E. Moore, whom was heavily involved in state politics in the late 19th Century and early 20th Century. Constructed by Moore in 1886, the house is an example of a Folk Victorian take on the Carpenter Gothic style, with a prominent central gabled wall dormer. The one and a half story, T-Plan house has seen some renovations, including replacement windows, but does still maintain quite a bit of historical integrity. The house was somewhere I spent time at during my childhood, as every 4th of July, the annual tradition of Miss Lucy’s Picnic used to occur in the backyard of this house, a local tradition which dated back to the 1940s, and now takes place at the nearby Hedden House. The house, currently for sale, was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1990 due to its architectural significance, as well as its association with a prominent historical figure.
