Description: West Dundee Village Hall in the Dundee Township Historic District in West Dundee (1909). West Dundee was founded in 1834 by Jesse H. Newman. The town's name was suggested by Alexander Gardiner, a native of Scotland. The town of West Dundee was incorporated in 1867. Ethnic differences separated West and East Dundee--Scottish and English in the West, German in the East--so the two towns went their separate ways in the 1860s.
