Description: This is a photograph of the Southgate-Lewis House [1], circa 1980, after it had undergone restoration and preservation. The house was constructed in 1888. This west elevation of the Southgate-Lewis House reveals (a) the dormer, (b) the two chimneys projecting from the cedar shake roof, and (c) the unusually elaborate siding, trim, and fish-scale shingles. The dormer window itself embodies many characteristics of the Victorian Style: (a) overhanging eves with exposed rafter ends, (b) crossed bargeboard trim, (c) steeply pitched gable roof with an extended overhang, and (d) diagonal brackets to support the overhang. There are two ornamental symbolic birds reaching toward each other above an ornamental medallion.
