Description: An artist's depiction of what "Wolfert's Roost" - the property originally owned by Wolfert Acker, which was bought by Washington Irving turned into his estate, Sunnyside -- looked like at the time that Irving bought it.
Title: Wolfert's Roost Irvington
Credit: Graff, Polly Anne and Graff, Stewart (eds.) Wolfert's Roost: Portrait of a Village. Irvington, New York: The Washington Irving Press, 1971, p.28-29. The image is credited to "W. Lockwood", meaning Wolfert Ecker Lockwood, the unofficial town historian of Irvington, New York, upon whose collection of notes and papers the book is based. It is unclear from the credit whether Lockwood was the artist, or that the image (which appears to be a painting) simply came from his collection. Also not noted is the date of the painting's execution, although it seems likely to have been a modern artist's conception, as opposed to a contemporaneous or near-contemporaneous depiction.
