The Jefferson Memorial

The Jefferson Memorial is a presidential memorial in Washington, D.C.. It was dedicated to the 3rd President of the United States Thomas Jefferson. The neoclassical Memorial building on the Tidal Basin off the Washington Channel of the Potomac River was designed by the architect John Russell Pope.

Construction began in December 1938. It was complete in 1939 with a ceremony attended by then-President Franklin D. Roosevelt. As a National Memorial it was administratively listed on the National Register of Historic Places on October 15, 1966.
