Lyman Beecher (October 12, 1775 – January 10, 1863) was an important minister during the Second Great Awakening. He was a Presbyterian minister. He was also a co-founder of the American Temperance Society. He had 13 children, many of whom became notable people, including Harriet Beecher Stowe, Henry Ward Beecher, Charles Beecher, Edward Beecher, Isabella Beecher Hooker, Catharine Beecher and Thomas K. Beecher.
His son Henry Ward Beecher said that his father was "largely engaged during his life-time in controversy" (meaning that he was a controversial person).
