Manhattan was a proposed city in a development that was located in northern Manatee County, Florida near the present-day town of Parrish during the Florida land boom in the 1920s. The town was intended to be the centerpiece of an agricultural community called Manatee River Park Estates.
History
Manhattan was named after Manhattan, a borough of New York City. The town was created by investors in 1926. At the time there was an explosion in Real Estate in Florida known as the Florida Land Boom. The site of the town had almost no structures other than buildings to promote sales and a general store. It was abandoned by the time The Great Depression started. Today, there are no remains of the former town site. The site was on the North Shore of Lake Manatee.[1]
