Matsuyama (松山市, Matsuyama-shi) is the capital city of Ehime Prefecture in Japan.

Matsuyama is on the northwest coast of Shikoku.

It has been recognized as a core city since 2000.

History

  • 1854 (Ansei 1 ): Matsuyama Castle destroyed by fire

The city is known for hot springs (onsen). Dōgo Onsen in Matsuyama is the oldest hot spring bath house in Japan.

Eight of the eighty-eight temples in the Shikoku Pilgrimage are in Matsuyama.
