North Kivu is a province in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo. Its capital is Goma. It borders Lake Kivu.

North Kivu was created in 1989, when the existing Kivu Province was divided into three parts (South Kivu, North Kivu and Maniema).

The province has three cities—Goma, Butembo and Beni—and six territories:

  • Beni
  • Lubero
  • Masisi
  • Rutshuru
  • Nyiragongo
  • Walikale

North Kivu is home to the Virunga National Park, a World Heritage Site containing the endangered mountain gorillas.
