Otho is a city in Webster County, Iowa, United States. The population was 429 at the time of the 2020 census.

Geography

Otho is located at 42°25′29″N 94°8′59″W / 42.42472°N 94.14972°W / 42.42472; -94.14972 (42.424739, -94.149588).

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 0.46 square miles (1.19 km2), all of it land.

2010 census

As of the census of 2010, there were 542 people, 237 households, and 152 families living in the city. The population density was 1,178.3 inhabitants per square mile (454.9/km2). There were 260 housing units at an average density of 565.2 per square mile (218.2/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 97.6% White, 0.6% African American, 0.4% Native American, 0.2% Pacific Islander, 0.6% from other races, and 0.7% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.0% of the population.

There were 237 households, of which 28.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 50.2% were married couples living together, 8.9% had a female householder with no husband present, 5.1% had a male householder with no wife present, and 35.9% were non-families. 29.1% of all households were made up of individuals, and 12.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.29 and the average family size was 2.80.

The median age in the city was 42.6 years. 22.1% of residents were under the age of 18; 8.5% were between the ages of 18 and 24; 22.2% were from 25 to 44; 30.3% were from 45 to 64; and 17% were 65 years of age or older. The gender makeup of the city was 52.2% male and 47.8% female.

Education

Otho is within the Fort Dodge Community School District. Otho residents are zoned to Butler Elementary School. The district's sole secondary schools are Fort Dodge Middle School and Fort Dodge Senior High School.
