Riccardo Giacconi (October 6, 1931 – December 9, 2018) was an Italian-American astrophysicist and educator. He won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2002. He was awarded the prize because he laid the foundations of X-ray astronomy. He was a professor at the Johns Hopkins University.

Giacconi died on December 9, 2018 in San Diego, California, aged 87.
